Change of Bussing for Some Students
Mrs. Oura Tavares has sent home letters to students affected by these changes:
Those affected are former riders of routes U32-A; U32-B; U83-A; U33 - Kula Kai/Ka Dr only.
U32-A, U32-B Na'alae Rd only and U33 will now be on U30-A.
U32-B Holomakani and Kahoea only and U83-A will now be on U-92.
Please contact the school office if you have questions (876-7610)

Traffic Advisory
Aloha Kula School 'Ohana:
Mrs. Oura Tavares wanted to pass along this information regarding traffic disruptions:
Temporary road closures and construction activities
scheduled for Upcountry and Central Maui areas
As part of Sempra U.S. Gas Si Povver’s commitment to keep the community informed as
construction on Auvvahi Wind progresses motorists are advised that the following activities
are taking place in the Upcountry and Central Maui areas, which may impact drive times:
- Please expect ongoing temporary road closures alohg Upcouhtry Pi`ilahi Highway (Route
31) just after mile marker 16 to the Auwahi Wind project site (near mile marker ZO) due to
highway improvements. Throughout the week and on weekends, the highway will be inter-
mìttently closed for approximately 30 minutes between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Extended
delays are also possible due to unforeseen circumstances. Electronic notification boards
nave been placed along the highway to inform motorists of the closures ahead. Highway
improvements are expected to be complete in early August.
Large trucks carrying construction materials and equipment are traveling on Kula Highway
and Upcountry Highway to the Auvvahi Wind project site Monday through Saturday
from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Every effort vvill be made to avoid transport in the vicinity of
Upcountry schools during dropoft and times once the fall semester begins.
Upcountry Pi`iIani Highway improvements are being made to accommodate the large semi-
trucks that are scheduled to transport “super of wind turbine components to the
Auvvani Wind site in August.

Ready for the 2012-2013 School Year?
July 30th is not that far away! Here are a few reminders:
School Supplies:

- Lists were distributed at the end of the school year. Click here for more information (Junior Kindergarten or Kindergarten or Grades 1 - 5).
- When dropping your child/children at school please be mindful of your speed. The speed limit is 5 MPH
- If you are dropping them off curbside, please have them exit the car to the curb (not into traffic).
- Do not block the entrance to the school.
- If you are going to park, please park in the visitor stalls in the upper parking lot.
- Please do not leave your vehicle running while you drop your child off.
- Come to school on time. School starts at 7:45 a.m.
- Attend school regularly. Call the office at 876-7610 if your child is going to be absent.

Kids Recipe Contest Deadline Set for This Sunday
Oahu, Hawaii – Attention island keiki! Do you have a special, healthy lunch recipe you’d like to share with First Lady Michelle Obama? Show your culinary stuff and enter the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge. A winning young chef from each state will be selected and flown to Washington, DC to attend a kids’ “State Dinner” at the White House this August. The deadline to enter is this Sunday, June 17th, so don’t delay!
The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge is sponsored by the White House’s Let’s Move! campaign, Epicurious, the U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“Kula strawberries, Kona oranges, luscious Manoa lettuce. These are just some of the tasty fruits and veggies that can be featured in a lunch that gives Mrs. Obama a taste of the islands,” said Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (HI-02). “The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge is a great way for us to see who the next Roy Yamaguchi or Alan Wong will be!”
Keiki must be between the ages of 8-12 to participate. Submissions will be accepted via email and traditional mail through June 17th.
